A Study on Health Stastus, life Statisfication and Powerless in Elderly

Abstract
|
|
|
This Study designed to investigate the health status, powerlessness and life satisfaction in elderly. The subject were 96 old persons, men and women who are over 60, residing at E-Institution in Pusan.
Data was collected from the 23rd of August to the 25th of August, 1991 by means of questionaire.
The instruments for this study were Health Status Scale for the old developed by researcher, Miller's Powerlessness Scale which consists of 16 items, and Life Satisfaction Scale developed by Yun.
The data were analyzed by use of descriptive stastistics, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient.
@ES The results of this study were as follows:
@EN 1. In the elderly 44% said that they themselves were healthy, but 56% of the aged answered that they were not healthy.
2. The degree of powerlessness in the elderly were
: the minimal 17 points, the maximal 53 points and the mean 25.28 points.
3. The degree of life satisfaction in the delderly were
: the minimal-20 points, the maximal 20 points, and the mean-2.84 points.
4. There was no statistically significant difference in powerlessness among the subjects according to health status.(t=1.61, p=.111)
5. There was significant difference in the satisfaction among the subjects according to health status. (t=-3.07, p=.003).
6. There were significant inverse relationships between powerlessness and life satisfaction in the elderly.(r=-.3213, p=.001).
